Get Involved!

Our school offers some great programs to help foster your child's education and social skills. We strive to incorporate programs that will assist your child's positive growth, both now and in the future.

After School Programs

McMillin Elementary offers various before and after school programs for students.

LEAD Program

CVESD's LEAD Program is a free program funded by the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP). All our schools offer the LEAD Program, with each site offering different enrichment offerings, including language, robotics, music, sports, and more. Students participating in the program learn a new skill and gain the valuable opportunity to interact with peers in a physically and emotionally safe environment. The LEAD Program is free to transitional kindergarten through sixth grade students who meet program requirements.

Dynamic After School Hours (DASH) - The City of Chula Vista, along with South Bay Family YMCA, conducts the DASH (Dynamic After School Hours) Program here at McMillin School. This free program provides structured after-school activities, including sports clinics, arts and crafts, cooperative games, weekly chMcMillinges, and traditional playground games for 1st-6th grade students.

Please remember that DASH is not a daycare, and children may sign themselves in and out. Parents must submit registration for DASH. Students must be picked up promptly after DASH is over.

DASH Hours at McMillin Elementary are:

Monday-Thursday, 2:40 -4:40 (2 hours)
Friday, 1:30-4:40 (3 hours)

YMCA (Before and After School Care)

The South Bay Family YMCA provides before and after school childcare on our school campus. The YMCA staff have all received background clearance checks, and are trained in First Aide/CPR. The YMCA offers quality childcare at competitive rates, and can provide financial assistance in a variety of ways. Please call 421-8805 for more information or visit their web site at www.southbay.ymca.org.

Payments may be made in the cafeteria, in the school office, or online (see below in Online Services). Checks should be made payable to Cafeteria account, CVESD. Parent Volunteers

Get Involved

Parent involvement and participation are vital to student success. Parents participate in our school by getting involved in our School Site Council (SSC), attending the English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) meetings, and volunteering through our Parent Teacher Organization (PTA). Parents are invited to participate in classroom activities, field trips, programs, and assemblies.

Stay informed. We encourage communication in many ways:

  • Teachers maintain ongoing communication with parents through weekly letters, progress reports, phone calls, and conferences.
  • School events are published on the website front page and on the school marquee.
  • Principal communicates through phone calls via School Messenger and at quarterly Principal's Coffee meetings.
  • School Site Council meetings are open to the public. Public communication at meetings is always on the SSC agenda.
  • ELAC meetings focus on providing parents of English language learners with school program's background knowledge and opportunities for them to serve as an advisory forum to the principal and the SSC.
  • Our school's PTA holds general meetings quarterly and helps organized school events.
  • The YMCA's Dynamic After School Hours (DASH) program, provides physically interactive after school activities to enrolled students until 5:15 PM each school day.

We welcome volunteers and are continually seeking Educational Partnerships with businesses and organizations in our community. Please call 619-482-8877 if you wish to become involved in school activities. Spanish translation is available.
